3 Fashion Flips for Men's Shirts
Tucked/Untucked
Well this has caused some debate, so much so that some brands are choosing to only offer one route! However, our shirts are designed with length and shape in the hem to allow comfortable wearing in either mode. Get this right and you’ve got two shirts in one. Now, in this piece we’re not going to get too technical on how you want to tuck, military, underwear etc, but certainly we’ll cover the look and associated situations for where you might choose one over the other.
Tucked in, to denote your smart look, colour contrasts are kept to a minimum, whilst both the hem shape and the length allow for effortless work-mode wearing, providing the perfect stability to prevent unwanted untucking. Best deployed at work or at a formal event like the racing, or god forbid a wedding; where let’s face it, you’re losing a mate not gaining-one.
Untucked, the shirt sits at the perfect length with just a hint of seam shape. In this mode the W&B style is highlighted, showing glimpses of our classic contrast colour with the occasional flash of the placket micro label. Contrast lower bar tack and side hem carry off the look. Even our exclusive material relaxes after tucking, so you can transition to after work drinks looking like you’ve popped home and changed into a fresh shirt. This look is perfect for popping to the pub, or getting your fill at your mate’s BBQ.
Collars
In recent years there seems to have been a resurgence of the button-up look. At W&B we’re certainly not against individual expression, and our patterns allow for a comfortable button-up. Contrast colours are kept to a minimum with just the hint provided by the upper bar tack. In this mode the button-down collar really furthers the look, and is best combined with the shirt untucked to summon your inner Liam.
This look is perfect for those events which sit somewhere between smart and casual, offering the smart look with a daring personality; maybe this gets you into that exclusive VIP club!
Ultimately, it’s your call, want to cazh it up a bit, then undoing the collar button is stage one. This creates glimpses of our trademark contrast trim, to provide the go to smart/casual look; appropriate pretty much anywhere. Undo one button more, transforms your look to laid back, often combined with the cuff flip (see below) and takes you from boardroom to the bar; mines a Peroni!
Cuffs
As standard, buttoned down, your smart look is on point. Always best left this way for full on formal/work look. However, flip once to show contrast inner cuff, often joined by undoing your top button. Or flip further, for the summer evening event, to hold the sleeves at three quarter length. This is often accompanied by a second or even third button release, as long as you’ve not forgotten to manscape, unless you were intentionally going for the 70’s Bond chest rug look! This can transport you from stock market pit to the paradise of eating out!
With these 3 simple flips, one shirt gives you multiple looks for multiple occasions. Just remember there is no right or wrong, just the matching of time and place. Tucked or untucked you’ll look on point, just remember to check the collars and cuffs.
