3 Key areas still integral in the art of Men’s tailoring

In recent years with fast fashion, it seems we’ve moved further away from the art of tailoring. Whilst we’re not suggesting we are not ready to wear, it’s still important to deploy the same ideology of our forbearers to supply the ultimate style within our arena.

Desired Fit

Before sewing machines were prevalent, material was hand cut and hand sewn.  In this manner garments could be focused into a desired fit, which although has been streamlined with our modern processes, is something we still hold dear today. The Desired Fit is ultimately a large part of our brand, thousands of hours have been invested to provide what we believe to be the perfect fusion of modern and classic fit.  Something you can easily wear at work whilst switching to evening-wear, with a flick of a cuff.

The Tailor’s Patterns

A tailor’s patterns were his/her trade secrets, often never divulged in full to the apprentice, until such time as to hand the business over, once it had been purchased. This was essentially their IP.  Today our patterns are held in our “Tech Packs”.  Not only do they form a massive part of the design journey, through their many iterations, but they hold the pure Wolf and Baller DNA to our products and styles.

Material Choice

A key factor in the history of tailoring.  The quality of the material was paramount and designated as to which level a garment was placed, and indeed who could afford it.  Simply put, the more expensive the material the higher price of the garment and consequently who would afford to wear it.  OK, so not so different today, although we’ve sourced our material with the highest quality in mind, we believe the end products offer value for money within the quality/affordability equation.  We’ve poured over 1000’s of samples and uncovered natural, sustainable and highly resistant materials which we believe to be the finest on the market for the product chosen.  Indeed, this is held high within our brand values.  We will not pander to high production and low quality to increase profit.

Whilst we don’t believe sustainability  would have been high on the list of influential factors for material choice in the 19th Century, it certainly is a key factor today and therefore must get a mention in this section.  We choose organic materials – Organic Cotton and only use recyclable packaging.  We look to source responsibly - choosing suppliers/manufacturers within a reasonable geographic location, therefore reducing increased carbon transportation impact.

Indeed, the robustness both in design and function make our garments a main stay of your long-term wardrobe. This combined with our low carbon overhead, helps keep us carbon responsible.

There’s still so much art in Tailoring

As we suggested at the beginning of this article, what “fast fashion” has done for the art of tailoring, we do however believe there is a balance to be perfected.  Indeed, the modern gentleman is again looking at ways to look good, whilst investing in a wardrobe to stand the test of time, with both design and functional stability.  Whilst we may not be able to gain the ultimate uniqueness of our bespoke tailoring forbearers, we will go as close as we can.  Our focus on exquisite fit, our reimagined classic patterns plus our directives for material choice, all follow the lineage of the Art of Tailoring.

The last part which makes it unique, is you:  Wolf and Baller - Distinctively You!
